No Vote, No Voice

Like artists working in other media, quilt artists often use the quilt medium to address important social, political, economic, and environmental issues. Beasley’s work refers to a 2013 Supreme Court ruling that resulted in the closure of almost 1,000 polling places, many in African-American communities. The court ruling also resulted in cuts to early voting, purges of voter rolls, and stricter voter ID laws, all actions that usually result in lower minority voter turnout.
