Rough Water

My home state, Virginia, is considered the second worst state for toxic chemicals being dumped into our waterways—18 million pounds in our lakes, rivers, and streams every year. Recent studies have found elevated levels of chemicals such as arsenic, mercury, and benzene. Exposure to these chemicals has been linked to cancer, developmental disorders, and reproductive disorders.

Fish and other wildlife, as well as different plant species, are dependent on clean water for survival. We must expand and enforce the provisions of the Clean Water Act and persuade industries to use safer alternatives to these toxic chemicals.
