Without Gun Control

The children in the first-grade class where I volunteered were practicing "Code Blue," a school-wide shutdown in the event that a shooter entered the school. The teacher and I locked doors, piled furniture in front of them, and closed blinds. Then we crouched on the floor with the children in a corner of the classroom without speaking for 15 minutes. Even though they knew it was a practice, the children were frightened, hung on our arms, and crawled into our laps.

We were all frightened that day, and we're hoping that our lawmakers can regulate guns in a way that will protect us all.
