Islamic Courtyard

During a trip to Morocco, I was enthralled by the variety of rich designs, prints, and patterns hidden within courtyards surrounded by plain mud and stucco walls. Only the doorways and fretwork on windows hinted at the elaborate decorations inside. I took many photos and studied books on Islamic architecture.

This construction does not represent a specific building, rather it incorporates many architectural details from history and around the world. Now, more than ever, when wars and terrorist acts are destroying many historic buildings—particularly in the Middle East—it is important to recognize, honor, and preserve the remaining heritage.
